The House on Mango Street. The diary of the strongest character

Sandra Cisneros

This book is a collection of short stories from the life of a girl (she's the author) who was born in Chicago, but has a parents born in Mexico. Esperanza main heroine of the book and on my opinion the strongest character. Despite the fact that Esperanza an American girl, she has an unusual name and very shy of this. Many times people told Esperanza that her name is strange. Esperanza wanted to be like all the other children and does not stand out. In her stories touched upon cultural, racial, familial and other problems that Esperanza shares with the readers.
If I were the main character of this book, Esperanza, I would write in my diary that I very proud to have Mexican roots, and I could speak two languages: Spanish and English. I would have written that finally one of the dream has become reality, and our family lives in our own house. Maybe it's not as big as we would like, but we should not find again a new place for living. In my diary, I would like to share of my daily life stories about school, friends and dreams. I would write all my emotions from the first purchased the bicycle to the first kiss, and that I have such a beautiful and rare name.

From Farm to Fridge to Garbage Can

New York Times
November 1, 2010

According to New York Times, the big consumer problem is that people often throw out food that did not even eat. Abandoned of forgotten food just spoils in refrigerators. Scientist made a research, and 93 percent of the respondents bought food that is never used. Most people who find in their refrigerator for example spinach with brownish leaves, people just throw out the spinach instead of cutting off the leaves and use the rest of the greens in food. Another important issue is that consumers throw out a lot of spoiled food in the trash, it begins to produce methane - a gas of greenhouse. Using all products in food allows us to save not only the environment, but also our money. Scientists estimated that a year we can save about 2,275 $ if we will not buy more than we can eat.
There are several methods to get rid of the habit to buy a lot of products: for example, plan weekly menu and buy only as much as planned. Second, is to maintain optimum temperature in the refrigerator. If food is perish quickly, we need to reduce the temperature. And most importantly - is not afraid of brown leaves that can be take off from the good product.

Opinion
In my opinion this is a very useful article about not only preserve the environment and our money, but how to save the work of people who are engaged in cultivation and production of food, and the more meaningful fact is that in many poor countries, people have a constant hunger. Of course we all sometimes forget about leaving food in the fridge, but don't to turn our kitchens into warehouses for the unwanted food. When I find the lost and unlucky spoiled tomatoes in the refrigerator, I always think about dish I could add it. This is not a global article how to save the planet, it is about how to simply make our lives a little bit better.

Vocabulary:

The House on Mango street. Part 2

Writer: Sandra Cisneros

In the second part of the book, I would like to pay attention to character that interested me most. As outlined earlier, the little girl Esperanza talks about her life, life of friends and relatives. One of her neighbors was a girl Marin, who lived in the neighborhood in a family of her uncle. In my opinion she is very romantic, kind girl who wants a better life away from the place where she lived. Marin was sitting with nephews, sold Avon cosmetics and tells to little Esperanza lot of interesting things that she knew because she was older. One day, Marin told Esperanza that she has a fiance in Puerto Rico, and that she wants to marry him, then Marin showed the letters and took a promise that Esperanza will not tell anybody anything. Unfortunately, Marin's uncle has founded letters and sent the girl back to her mother. After that, Esperanza had not seen her, but she always knew that Marine was waiting something new, and someone to change her life.

The house on Mango street.

 Writer: Sandra Cisneros
This book tells us about the life of a little girl and her family, which lives in a small house on Mango Street. The main character named Esperanza, she inherited the name from her grandmother. Esperanza describes her family, friends, and everyone else with whom she was connected. Their family consists of six people: parents, Carlos, Kiki, the youngest daughter Nenny and Esperanza. They were dreaming about a big white house with three washrooms, wide stairs and a large yard in front of the house, but instead of this, they got a little house of red brick with narrow stairs and small courtyard. The only advantage of this house is that it was their own. Esperanza's family didn't need to move from place to place in search of new rental house. This is the story of the life that describes the girl's memories about her home, first buying of bicycle, the smell of her mom's hair and much more.

New Planet May Be Able to Nurture Organisms

New York Times
Published: September 29, 2010

According to New York Times, scientists - astronomers have recently discovered a planet containing water on its surface. This means that the planet which was named Gliese 581g can be a home for plants and animals. This discovery is unique, and considered as the main achievement of the decade. Unfortunately, in the near future astronauts will not be able to get on Gliese 581g, because this planet is located in 20 light-years from Earth in the constellation of Libra. The only way to observe and study the new planet is using the most advanced and powerful telescopes. Scientists don’t really know what is happening on the surface of Gliese 581g. We only know that the temperature on the planet is from 10 to minus 24 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature is approximately equal to the temperature of a sunny day in Antarctica. Scientists have never met the planet that would be so similar as our Earth, and as one of the scientists say: the chances of life on Gliese 581g is almost equal to 100%

My opinion:
I have chosen this article for a study, because I believe that the discovery of new planets that could support life is truly a revolutionary achievement for all people. I believe that we are not alone in the universe, and somewhere we will find the living of wise and clever creatures. The first step in this side has already done by scientists who discovered the Gliese 581g.
